Horsegram/Hurali Saru and Palya (Method 2)
Ingredients:
Horsegram/Hurali 2 cups
Coconut grated 1/2 cup
Onion big size 1
Garlic pods 10
Tomato medium size 2
Dry red chillies 4
Sambar/curry powder 2 tsp
Curry leaves 1 strand
Mustard 1/4 tsp
Asafoetida pinch
Ghee 4 tsp
Method:
1.Wash and soak horsegram in water overnight and let it sprout for one more day.
2. Pressure cook horsegram with salt and 2-3 cups of water till 5-6 whistle.
3. Crush onion and garlic in mixer. (do not make paste)
4. Heat ghee in 2 different pan, add mustard, asafoetida, red chillies and curry leaves fry them. Add crushed onion and garlic to both the pan. Fry them for few minutes.
5. Take 2 chopped tomatoes, grated coconut and sambar/curry powder in mixer. Make smooth paste without adding water. Add this paste to each pan and fry. (Add more to liquid part that is SAARU and less to PALYA)
6. Now add cooked horsegram to one pan with less masala and liquid to the other pan with more masala. Add some more water to the liquid if required. Cook for few more minutes and switch off the stove.
7. Horsegram saaru and palya ready to serve. It goes well with rice and ragi mudde.
