Ridge Gourd/Heerekayi Chutney
Ingredients:
Ridge Gourd/Heerekayi medium sized - 1
Died red chili - 5 or 6
Urad dal - 2 tsp
Tamarind - marble size
Garlic cloves - 4
Mustard seeds - 1/ 4 tsp
Curry leaves - 1 strand
Asafoetida - pinch
Salt as per taste
Oil
Method:
1. Wash and chop the Ridge gourd into pieces.
2. Dry roast Urad dal and Dried red chilies till brown. Let it cool.
3. In same pan heat a tsp of oil and add chopped Ridge gourd and little salt, cook till soft. Let it cool.
4. Grind roasted urad dal and dried chilies in a blender without adding water. Add cooked Ridge gourd, tamarind and garlic. Grind into coarse paste without adding water. Transfer the paste to a bowl, add little salt mix well.
5. Season it with mustard, asafoetida and curry leaves.
6. Ridge gourd chutney is ready. It goes well with Idli, Dosa, Chapati and Rice.
